There is a variety of materials you can use when crafting with kids, we think frugal or recycled are the best.
Crafting with Paper Plates
There is a whole section of paper plate craft ideas on our website (and we constantly add new cool projects to make with your kids). Paper plates are really frugal which makes them a great crafting material for classroom crafts or for crafting at home. There are a million and one ways you can make wonderful crafts.

Origami Paper
You can turn a sheet of ordinary paper into an origami in no time, and even if you use regular origami paper this is still one of the more frugal crafting materials around. Origami are great for kids to make, as they help develop fine motor skills, patience and are fun to make above all.
Check our section of origami ideas for kids and beginners and our origami bookmark designs, something we are especially fond on.

Paper Rolls – Crafting With Toilet Paper Rolls, Paper Kitchen Towel Rolls and similar
Toilet paper roll crafts, we use this term for all kinds of paper rolls, you can even buy sterile crafting rolls in craft shops if you are not comfortable using toilet paper rolls, or cut the paper kitchen towel roll to smaller rolls. There are many cool things you can make by using paper rolls and boy do we have a few ideas for you!

Rock Arts and Crafts for Kids
Another wonderful material to get creative with are rocks. If you live near a river you can go on a rock hunt on your next nature walk. If that is not an option most craft stores (and dollar stores) will have rocks available for crafting.
Why should you craft with kids? Benefits? What about creativity?
Crafts can be fun! But they might not be for every child. Not everyone is crafty or has interest in crafting and that is absolutely OK.
Crafts and craft tutorials can be followed to a dot, or be taken as inspiration and a base for a open ended creative session.
You make crafts suit you! Some kids enjoy following tutorials and making a project that resembles the "original" – which usually results in a sense of pride, while others are more inclined to take their own route and create something completely different. All is OK and should be encouraged. Usually people see arts as more open ended and crafts as end product based, but we think crafts can be open ended too, and even if they are not, there is place for both in this word as the thing that matters most, is taking the time to do something together with the kids and making memories.
Crafting with kids has it's benefits. It's good for coordination, coloring crafts help with pencil grip, hand coordination, most crafts for kids are great for fine motor coordination. Making crafts helps build self-confidence, especially when it comes to easy crafts. Most important benefit in my opinion, and this one stands beyond all is bonding.
